Edward Hardwicke was an English actor.

Biography[]

Born in London to actors Cedric Hardwicke and Helena Pickard, he studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts before studying at a number of the theatres including the National, performing in productions such as The Master Builder, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and The Crucible.

While initially a stage performer, Hardwicke gained great recognition on television after appearing in Colditz, but most memorably as Dr. John Watson in The Return of Sherlock Holmes. He also had roles in many films with Othello, Richard III and Elizabeth to name a few.
