Edward G. Robinson was a Romanian born American actor.
Biography[]
Born Emanuel Goldberg in Bucharest, Romania, Robinson served in the US Navy during World War I and began acting in the Yiddish Theatre District in 1913. He made his screen debut in 1923 and his big break came after being cast as the lead in Little Caesar, resulting in a career of tough guy roles
Robinson would go on to appear in over fifty major motion pictures, including Double Indemnity, The Ten Commandments and Key Largo. His final film role was as detective Sol Roth in Soylent Green.
Robinson passed away in 1973.
Singing[]
Despite an extensive career Robinson only sang briefly onscreen, beginning with several snippets of songs in I Loved a Woman (duetting on "Little Annie Rooney") and later singing "It Had to Be You" in A Slight Case of Murder. He also sang the classic "Auld Lang Syne" in Two Weeks in Another Town.
