Dianne Wiest is an American actress.

Biography[]

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Wiest studied at the University of Maryland and went on to perform with a number or repertory companies, notably playing the titular lead in Hedda Gabler before winning three Off-Broadway awards for her performance in The Art of Dining. She soon began appearing onscreen in films such as Footloose (playing the Reverend's wife), before her Academy Award winning role in Hannah and Her Sisters.

Wiest would win a second Academy Award for Bullets Over Broadway, and a third nomination for her role in Parenthood. She also appeared in such films as The Lost Boys and Edward Scissorhands, as well as television series including The 10th Kingdom and Law and Order. Wiest returned to the stage in the 2000s in a number of high-profile productions, including Salome, The Seagull and All My Sons.

Singing[]

Wiest only sang twice onscreen, singing a section of the standard "I'm Old Fashioned" in Hannah and Her Sisters, and performing in the quartet "I Could Have Danced All Night" in The Birdcage.
