Derek Jacobi is an English actor.
Biography[]
Born in Leytonstone, London, he was a member of the Birmingham Repertory Theatre and the National Theatre, playing such roles as Laertes in Hamlet and Cassio in Othello. He was soon cast as the lead in the series I, Claudius, one of several successful television roles alongside Brother Cadfael and Last Tango in Halifax.
Best known for his work on stage, Jacobi won awards and excellent reviews for his roles as Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing, King Lear and Malvolio in Twelfth Night. However he also appeared in films such as Gladiator and The King's Speech and had roles in Frasier, Doctor Who (as The Master) and as Stuart Bixby in Vicious.

In 2016, Jacobi released the album You Are the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me with his Last Tango in Halifax co-star Anne Reid.
