Debra Monk is an American actress.

Biography[]

Born in Middletown, Ohio, Monk received a Masters in Fine Arts from the Southern Methodist University and soon became recognised after co-writing and appearing in Pump Boys and Dinettes, the first of many musical appearances.

Though her credits are mostly for stage appearances, Monk guest starred in a number of television series including Law & Order and Desperate Housewives as well as receiving a primetime Emmy for her recurring role in NYPD Blue. She also starred in such films as The Bridges of Madison County and The Devils Advocate.

Singing[]

A mainstay of the Broadway stage, Monk appeared in the original production of Pump Boys and Dinettes before starring in and cowriting Oil City Symphony. She also appeared in the original casts of Assassins (as Sara Jane Moore) and Nick & Nora (as Lily Connors.)

Monk also appeared in several workshops for musicals in progress, such as The Skin of Our Teeth and Dear World. She also appeared in the television film The Music Man, in which she played Mrs. Paroo and The Great Buck Howard, singing the solo "Do You Believe in Magic."
