David Tomlinson was an English actor.
Biography
Born in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, Tomlinson began his acting career as a stage performer, before making his film debut in Quiet Wedding and serving in the RAF during World War Two.
Following the war, Tomlinson appeared in a number of films including Carry On Admiral and Tom Jones before playing his most memorable role as the hard-working, yet distracted patriarch George Banks in Mary Poppins. He would go on to play roles such as Peter Thorndyke in The Love Bug and the loveable failed magician Professor Emelius Browne in Bedknobs and Broomsticks before retiring from acting in the 1980s.
Tomlinson passed away in 2000.
Singing
Tomlinson made a number of notable singing appearances, beginning with Castle in the Air in 1952 and most notably with his two Disney films, Mary Poppins (where he notably sang "Let's Go Fly a Kite") and Bedknobs and Broomsticks, which included his solo piece "With a Flair."
