David Tennant is a Scottish actor.

Biography[]

Born David McDonald in Bathgate, West Lothian, he studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and soon appeared on both stage and screen in such productions as The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, Rab C. Nesbitt and Takin' Over the Asylum. He played a number of comic roles in Shakespeare plays such as the jester Touchstone in As You Like It before moving into films, including the role of Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Tennant's most famous role came when he was cast as the Tenth Doctor in Doctor Who, a part he would play for a number of years. After this he continued to appear in both comedies (Learners) and dramas (Recovery) as well the successful crime drama Broadchurch and the superhero action fare Jessica Jones, in which he played the nefarious Kilgrave.

Singing[]

Tennant sang briefly in episodes of Doctor Who and more frequently in Blackpool in his recurring roles as the Doctor and D.I. Peter Carlisle respectively. More notable however were the two duets he performed as a tie-in to his performance as Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing and his performance of Sunshine on Leith on the Children in Need album Got It Covered.
