David Hyde Pierce is an American actor.

Biography[]

Born in Saratoga Springs, New York, Pierce studied at Yale where he appeared (and directed) several Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. After graduating and moving to New York he appeared in a number of productions including Hamlet and Beyond Therapy. He acheived recognition on television for The Powers That Be before his best known role in the long running comedy series Frasier, as Dr. Niles Crane.

He also appeared in a large number of films, including Nixon and Sleepless in Seattle and was a prolific voice actor, playing (amongst others) Slim in A Bug's Life and Doctor Doppler in Treasure Planet. Pierce also returned to the stage numerous times, winning a Tony Award for Curtains, and receiving a second nomination for his part in Vashya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.

Singing[]

Hyde Pierce sang in a number films, television programs and stage productions, beginning with episodes of Frasier (particularly his duet of "Heart and Soul" with Jane Leeves) and The Simpsons (where he plays Sideshow Bob's brother Cecil).

He also appeared in a number of stage productions, originating the role of Sir Robin the Not-so-Brave in Spamalot and Lieutenant Frank Cioffi in Curtains.
