David Haig is an English actor.

Biography[]

Born in Aldershot, Hampshire, Haig first came to public attention with Four Weddings and a Funeral, and as the bumbling Inspector Grim in the series The Thin Blue Line. He also made appearances in the political comedy The Thick of It, and Mo, the critically acclaimed drama about politician Mo Mowlam.

It was on stage that Haig truly made his mark, winning an Olivier Award for Best Actor in 1988 and receiving two subsequent nominations, for Mary Poppins and The Madness of George III respectively. He also wrote and starred in the play and subsequent film My Boy Jack, as Rudyard Kipling. Haig also played the role of Jim Hacker in the stage production Yes, Prime Minister, and reprised the role for television.

Singing[]

Haig had only had a few musical roles, but they were notable ones, originating the part of Mr. Banks in the musical Mary Poppins, for which he received an Olivier Award nomination. He also played Nathan Detroit in a 2015 production of Guys and Dolls.
