Colin Firth is an English actor.
Biography[]
Born in Hampshire, Firth studied at the National Youth Theatre and was later selected to appear in the play Another Country, the film adaptation of which marked his screen debut. A member of the "Brit Pack", he made his breakthrough playing Fitzwilliam Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, and later as Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones' Diary, a modern retelling of the same story.
Despite being identified with romantic comedies for some time, Firth escaped typecasting with such parts as the Nazi Wilhelm Stuckart in Conspiracy (winning an Emmy), and later A Single Man, where he played a suicidal, repressed University lecturer, which earned his first Academy Award nomination. His most acclaimed role came with The King's Speech, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor.

Throughout his career, Firth has sung on a few occasions. His first two vocal performances have been duets with Rupert Everett, in The Importance of Being Earnest and St. Trinian's respectively.
He also featured in the film adaptation of the stage musical Mamma Mia!, in which he plays Harry Bright, one of the three potential fathers of Sophie Sheridan, the film's protagonist as well as the film's sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
