Chiwetel Ejiofor is an English actor.

Biography[]

Born in Forest Gate, London, he began studying at the London Academy of Music and Drama before leaving to star in Amistad in 1997. He appeared on stage playing the lead role in Othello on two occasions (on one occasion receiving an Olivier Award), and appeared in The Seagull as well as appearing in A Season in the Congo. He also had television roles in Trust, The Shadow Line and Dancing on the Edge.

However, Ejiofor was most prominent as a film performer, gaining recognition for Dirty Pretty Things, Kinky Boots as Lola the drag queen, and a multi-award winning role as Solomon Northup in 12 Years a Slave. He also made appearances in more mainstream films such as Love, Actually, Doctor Strange and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

Singing[]

Ejiofor made his singing debut in one of his star-making roles, Kinky Boots, performing many numbers including "What Lola Wants", "My Heart Belongs to Daddy" and "Yes Sir, I Can Boogie." He also spoke/sang the villainous number "Be Prepared" in The Lion King.
