Charles Winninger was an American actor.
Biography[]
Born in Athens, Wisconsin, Winninger began his career as a vaudeville performer and tromboner, and made his first notable stage performance in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1920. Soon after he made his film debut in 1924 and made notable film appearances in Three Smart Girls, Destry Rides Again and My Life With Caroline amongst others. He also had the lead role in The Sun Shines Bright and appeared on an episode of I Love Lucy.
Winninger passed away in 1969.

Winninger appeared in a number of stage musicals, originating the roles of S.M. Ralston in Yes, Yes, Yvette, Don Emilio in Revenge With Music and most notably Cap'n Andy Hawks in Show Boat. He also sang in several of his film appearances, including Nothing Sacred, Ziegfeld Girl and State Fair, as well as when he played Barney Kurtz on an episode of I Love Lucy.
