Bonnie Langford

Bonnie Langford is an English actress and singer.

Biography[]

Born Bonita Langford, she attended both the Arts Educational School, St Catherine's School, Twickenham at the Italia Conti Academy Stage School and won the show Opportunity Knocks aged only six. She also appeared in the series' Just William, Junior Showtime and the films Bugsy Malone and Womblin' Free. As an adult performer, she played the role of Melanie "Mel" Bush opposite Colin Baker in Doctor Who on television and later on radio.

Langford often performed as a dancer, first on The Hot Shoe Show and later as a contestant on Celebrity Dancing on Ice, as well as several tours and follow ups to the latter show. She was also a mainstay of Christmas pantomimes, and later returned to her television routes portraying Carmel Kazemi in EastEnders.

Singing[]

Langford made her earliest stage singing appearance in Scarlett (as Bonnie) and Gypsy (where she played Baby June. As an adult performer she would go on to originate the role of Rumpleteazer in Cats and appear in such shows as The Pirates of Penzance, [[Peter Pan (1954 musical)]|Peter Pan]] (in the title role) and Me and My Girl.

Langford later took leading roles as Charity Hope Valentine in Sweet Charity, Roxie Hart in Chicago and The Lady of the Lake in Spamalot. She also released two albums, entitled Jazz at the Theatre and Now, respectively.
