Billie Burke was an American actress.
Biography[]
Born Mary Burke in Washington D.C., she toured the United States with her father in the Barnum & Bailey Circus and made her stage debut in 1903. She would appear in a number of stage shows before her first silent film apoearance in 1915's Peggy, leading to massive success and an unrivalled salary. She would later move into sound pictures including A Bill of Divorcement, Merrily We Live (which earned her an Academy Award nomination) and the Topper series, as playing Glinda the Good Witch in The Wizard of Oz.
Burke also appeared in the successful series Father of the Bride as well as playing a fictional version of herself in The Billie Burke Show. She made her final screen appearance in the Western Sergeant Rutledge.
Burke passed away in 1970.

Burke sang in a number of films, including duetting with Oliver Hardy in Elephants Never Forget and performing part of the "Munchkinland Medley" in The Wizard of Oz.
