Arthur Treacher was an English actor.
Biography[]
Born in Brighton, Sussex, Treacher served in the First World War and joined the musical comedy revue Great Temptations, beginning a successful stage career. He made his film debut in David Copperfield and subsequently went on to appear in such Shirley Temple films as Curly Top and Heidi.
Though often typecast as a butler, Treacher also appeared in a number of non-singing roles in stage musicals such as King Pellinore in Camelot and the kindly Constable Jones in the film Mary Poppins. He also started the successful "Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips."
He passed away in 1975.
Singing[]
Treacher performed musically on both stage and screen, originating the roles of Sir Betram Hawley and Vivian Budd in the Broadway productions of The Madcap and Panama Hattie, as well as Oliver Perkins in the off-Broadway show Paradise Island.
