Andy Serkis is an English actor and director.

Biography[]

Born in Ruislip, Middlesex, he began as a stage actor in such shows as The Winter's Tale and King Lear before making the move into television, playing Bill Sikes in Oliver Twist and Albert Einstein in Einstein and Eddington. However his first major clain to fame came playing the motion-capture role of Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

This role led to Serkis dominating the motion capture role market, playing leads in King Kong, the Planet of the Apes series and his directorial debut; The Jungle Book. He also gained plaudits for live action roles including Ian Brady in Longford and Ian Dury in Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, as well as appearing in such films as The Prestige and Burke & Hare.

Singing[]

Serkis sang a number of times onscreen, beginning with Among Giants, where he performed two rock ballads, and Little Dorrit, where he frequently sang the tune "Le Chavalier du Guet."

However, Serkis' largest singing role came with the biopic Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, in which he performed such Ian Dury classics as "Sweet Gene Vincent" and "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick." He also performed "Loch Lomond" in The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn.
