Agnes Moorehead was an American actress.

Biography[]

Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, she joined the St. Louis Municipal Opera Company and studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, before beginning to work on radio. It was here that she met Orson Welles, whom she would work with on a number of occasions, notably receiving an Academy Award nomination for her work on his film The Magnificent Ambersons. She also appeared in the theatre in Don Juan in Hell and on radio in Suspense.

In addition to her mostly dramatic roles, Moorehead would also give lighter and comic performances, as Mrs. Snow in Pollyanna, and as the waspish Eudora on the long-running series Bewitched.

Moorehead passed away in 1974.

Singing[]

Moorehead sang a number of times both on the stage and screen, beginning with her early role in The Magnificent Ambersons, and singing brief snippets in films including Summer Holiday. She appeared as Eleanor West in the short-lived musical The Pink Jungle.

Moorehead also made two musical appearances towards the end of her career, as The Goose in Charlotte's Web and as Aunt Alicia in the stage musical Gigi.
